What it is
Section titled “What it is”The agent repeats an identical read-only lookup, such as the same search or the same web fetch, when nothing could have changed the answer.
How it’s detected
Section titled “How it’s detected”A call to Grep, Glob, LS, WebFetch or WebSearch is flagged when an
identical call (same tool, same input) already ran in the stream, with no Edit,
Write, MultiEdit, NotebookEdit or Bash call in between.
Bash commands are never counted as duplicates. Running pytest twice is usually
deliberate.
Waste = result tokens x 1.25.
How to fix it
Section titled “How to fix it”- Ask the agent to reuse earlier results.
- Make the first search more specific so it doesn’t need repeating.
